While driving in Yellowstone they tell you not to approach the wildlife...so we don't. But how can you avoid it when this happens.....

And then this....

It was so funny, we just had to drive very slow for a while because this huge buffalo kept walking back and forth in front of our car. It was actually pretty cool. We would never get this close if not for the safety of the car. We saw a lot of people walking very close to buffalo and a huge bull elk that were sitting by the side of the road. We thought they were so stupid and that they would surely get hurt. We didn't know how true that was until I found this book
Death in Yellowstone I saw this book in the campsite office and couldn't put it down, of course I passed on my morbid curiosity to my children. As soon as I started to describe the very first story in it they all wanted to read it and insisted we get it right away. Jackson even paid for it from his lawn mowing money. He read most of it on the way home. I am really surprised how many people have died from animal attacks and thermal pool burns. Pretty much all of them were because they were stupid and didn't follow the park rules. Some were tragic accidents that just happened.

Yellowstone is not Disneyland. It is wild and unpredictable. On the last night we were camping we had just got our steaks on the little camp grill outsite when the campground host rode up telling everyone to put all food away as soon as possible. A grizzley bear was just sited in the camp next to us. Yikes! We finished up and got inside. We are not playing around with our safety, no matter how cool it would have been to see a bear.

Sierra was so much fun, she loved looking at the gysers and hot pools. At the mud volcano she kept saying "yuck and gross". So cute!

Here we are at "dragon's breath". Pretty neat but the thought of all those people dying because they fell in is pretty sobering. I know that the next time we go we will all be a little more aware of the things that happend.

We didn't make it to Mt. Rushmore, we found out it was a lot further than we thought. We decided to stay and extra night at Jacksone Hole. We were able to get tickets to the local dinner theatre and play house. The kids saw "Seven brides for seven brothers". They loved it! Even Sierra couldn't take her eyes away from the dancing. They did a slow motion fight scene that had everyone laughing so hard. There was so much going on in it you couldn't watch it all. It was so worth it. It was the kids first time to any kind of play or musical and it was a good one to take them to. I know they will remember it for a long time.
