What is it about grass and old people that makes them feel like they need to defend it from the likes of small children? Are they bored? Do they believe that their precious kentucky blue grass is so fragile that the mere hint of shoe will leave an everlasting mark?

My children as well as about twenty others gather at the corner to wait for the bus to pick them up, otherwise known in "intelligent circles" as the bus stop. I agree that twenty or so children hanging around in one small area for too long a time without something constructive to do can indeed be cause for alarm in most faint-hearted individuals. Nevertheless, it cannot be helped, they need to catch the bus for school, they must wait, therefore they must congregate for a set amount of time. Being most of them are boys and restless they want to play tag, catch or something like that, which would be impossible to do standing in single file on the sidewalk. Well the older couple in that house they are renting decided they were tired of yelling and screaming at the kids to "stay off our lawn", which I think is so not going to happen, they put metal rods along the outside of their lawn then strung white garbage bags between them to make a pathetic sort of fence.

Little did they know that they were just giving these poor bored children something to play with and amuse themselves. My sweet angel of a child, cough, cough, ran his hand over it feeling the coolness of the gathered water along the top, then thought it would be fun to gently pull it down an inch and let it spring back up watch the water splash into the air.

The wicked old woman who lives there is always standing out on her driveway to keep the kids off when they play tag, she then actually yelled at him right in front of me!

I think if I were a more confrontational person I would have yelled back at her but I'm not so I didn't.

We now walk the opposite way to the other bus stop where they can play in peace and happiness on the lawn of people who actually understand that kids and grass are a perfect match.
